Software as a service to run your business
October 23, 2009
I have been frustrated for a while with my accounting and I wanted to share with you a shortcut that I discovered after a lot of trial and error. People in small enterprises tend to prefer doing more important tasks like getting, listening to and keeping customers as opposed to doing their bookkeeping. Accounting is a ‘chore’ that many people look forward to doing but should be performed on a consistent basis to avoid disaster.
When I initially began my bookkeeper advised or should I say insisted that I used a small business accounting software package made by a company called Sage Software. Without even looking at software I blindly went ahead and purchased the lowest cost version I could find. This was definitely one of the worst mistakes I made as the application turned out to be really difficult to comprehend and use. OK my first piece of wisdom is that whenever you see the words accounting software tread carefully as it definitely means the developer is making the assumption you know a great deal about accounting.
Like me I know this simply isn’t the case for most small business owners and this drove me to put aside time that I didn’t really have to discover a solution to make my life simpler. The second piece of wisdom I want to share with you is my discovery of a really straightforward and free web application called salesorder.com.
This is possibly the easiest software I have ever used and what’s more it is internet based and therefore I can use it from anywhere I want to work. And here is the coolest bit I want to tell you, the team at salesorder.com know their stuff, just like their application they are a joy to work with and better still are happy to spend quality time with their customers (even the free ones) helping people like me to understand and address real issues in my business and to top it off they have shared with me the accounting I need to know.
