Briefly Introducing Acne And The Subsequent Scarring

What Is Acne
There has been a large amount of cash spent in research into the disease known as acne. While there have been exciting advances in our learning and understanding of the annoying symptoms, and their treatment, there has been hardly, if any, advancement in our understanding of its main causes, however, we do understand a great deal about things which can effect it, either positively or negatively.
Acne is a skin condition which is recognizable by the angry, red appearance of the skin coupled with pimples (zits or spots). With acne the sebaceous glands in the skin create an excessive amount of oil (sebum) which cause the pores or hair follicles to develop blockages. These blocked pores are commonly known as whiteheads and blackheads. The skins pores become infected and inflamed causing pustules or spots (zits) to form. With acne sufferers the process of shedding the dead skin cells does not work correctly which leads to the the build up of dead skin cells further blocking the pores.
Anyone can be vulnerable to acne, it does not discriminate, however, it is commonly found more frequently in teenagers. Hormones are a known trigger for acne breakouts and, because a teenagers body is commonly flooded with hormones, they are most at risk. Besides the most obvious physical symptoms, acne can cause the sufferer to become most self-conscious and acutely wary of how they look. Sadly, even after an acne breakout the sufferer can, far too often, be left with highly visible acne scarring.
Available Acne Treatments
Which way the disease is treated is usually depends upon the severity of the acne. Very severe breakouts of acne should always be treated by a doctor who will, usually, prescribe a course of antibiotic creams, tablets, liquid or capsules (to be taken for about 6 months. Commonly a topical antibiotic cream is prescribed together with oral antibiotics. A further frequently recommended treatment is Microdermabrasion, which can be performed in a beauty clinic or at home.
Treating Acne Scars
The best way to treat acne scarring is to start at the earliest opportunity and carry on with the treatment for as long as is necessary. The removal or reduction of scars depends on a process called skin remodeling. This is a natural process in the skin but there are ways in which to accelerate it. The following treatments all help in this process; laser treatments, microdermabrasion, chemical peels or scrubbing massages.
Necessary Advice About Acne
The most important thing to do before starting on any form of treatment is to seek professional medical advice. Along with any prescribed medicines, the medical professional will often advise a person to change their lifestyle. By exercising, drinking plenty of water and eating a healthy diet, one can vastly improve the condition of the skin (you are what you eat).
