It is better to wear short jackets if you are going to use chest waders as otherwise the bottom of the long ones would get drenched in water. You should select a jacket with generous pockets for carrying lure boxes and other accessories. You need some shade as you stare into the water.

If you are a good angler, you would always carry three stashes of lure and tackle box where the first one is meant for home stockpile, the larger and second one for the boat and third is for the car. With this you are prepared for any eventuality. To prevent from running out of supplies, buy in large quantities right at the beginning of the season, especially if you plan to fish at night.
