    they make 6ft ugly stiks with button reels and ugly stiks are amazing poles

    Go to W*mart and pick up one of their $14 rod and reel combos. They have baitcaster reels on them (push button), and will make him feel like he’s usin’ a big boy’s rod without hurting your wallet too much.

    6 foot ugly stick with a zebco 33 reel (i have two 33′s that are over 10 years old and they still work fine.)

    I agree with eskimo. Walmart has cheap poles. Ugly stiks are actually very good fishing poles so it’s not gunna break on you when you catch a minnow. Hope he has fun with his new pole.

    zebco 33…still the spincast style, but lacking cartoons……if that isnt good enough thin spinning reel.
