Antique Car Insurance
March 27, 2008
The cost of replacing an antique car is difficult to put into figures as owners are aware how difficult they are to replace; just like everyday cars though, they require insurance. There are many companies available that provide and even specialize in antique car insurance as the number of enthusiasts in this area increases. This is good news for the classic car owner who wants a specialist company to look after his insurance needs and at a competitive price.
Even commercial auto insurers are getting in on the act now with policies to protect antique cars they call them ‘collector auto insurance’. Coverage is calculated once a representative from the insurance company takes the details of your car and your personal details so as to provide the best policy. They will also help you decide which types of coverage are within your target budget and which deductible and limit levels you will need.
These commercial insurers are able to provide you peace of mind as they are usually well established and therefore safe, probably with a large satisfied customer base so you know your antique car will be safe with them. If you purchase a car policy through one of these large commercial insurers then the chances are you will also be able to insure your regular car with them, sometimes on the same policy. Most of the time if you arrange antique car insurance with a larger company like this it will cost more but this is offset by the fact that you will feel safer knowing they will still be around should you need them.
It is possible to use specialist auto insurers and often the premium is lower because this is the only type of insurance they provide, this might mean that you will not be able to insure any other type of car with them. With the number of classic cars still around you will not be surprised to learn that even the insurers have, in some areas, specialized even further to provide cover for only one type of car.
To be on the safe side it is best to check out any insurance companies, especially the smaller ones so you can be happy in the knowledge that your premium money and antique car are not at risk. You do not want to find that after months of paying the insurance premiums that the company will not or is unable to pay your insurance claim.
Finding antique car insurance can be a lengthy and frustrating process, but the benefits of having insurance for the car far outweighs the initial hassle of finding the insurance. By their very nature, classic cars are almost always irreplaceable and represent a big investment on the part of the owner so protection for these cars is an absolute necessity.
