Phaser 4510 Toner- Prints Perfect Every Time

March 30, 2009

This article will help you to decide between the Xerox Phaser 4510DT and the HP LaserJet P4015dn printers for your office. Comparisons will be based on manufacturers listed specifications as well as tests conducted by our review team. Both are work-horse category black and white laser printers that are designed to service the needs of small to medium sized businesses.

Initial Cost: Comparing the specific models we tested the Phaser loses to the LaserJet. The MSRP for the 4510 is $1599, while the price for the HP is $1479. This isn’t a significant difference and both companies offer other configurations with different price points.

Standard Warranty: The clear winner in this category is the Phaser 4510 which comes with a one year on-site repair warranty. HP’s warranty, on the other hand, requires the printer to be returned to an authorized service centre.

First Page Printing: This round of competition was close, but the nod goes to the Phaser for producing the first page in 10 seconds on average, compared to the LaserJet’s 11 seconds. These speeds are slower than the manufacturers’ literature; however results were in line with the maximum speeds offered. The Xerox site claims a FPO rate of 8 seconds and the HP specs list the speed at 8.5 seconds.

Print Speeds: The LaserJet has a listed ppm (pages per minute) rate of up to 52, which beats the Phaser’s 48. However in practical testing, the rates were much closer: LaserJet was able to print 47 ppm while the Phaser performed at 45 ppm.

Paper Load: HP clearly wins this category. At maximum capacity the LaserJet is capable of holding 3600 sheets of paper; nearly triple the load of the Phaser which maxes out at 1250 pages.

Print Output: Both printers feature the same range of sizes: 3″ x 5″ to 8.5″ x 14″. Tie.

Network: This round is another tie. With a standard configuration that includes 3 regular USB ports, 1 Hi-Speed USB, a NIC and serial connections, the LaserJet provides multiple methods for converting data into hard copy. The Phaser has a similar configuration and but only has one USB port.

Summary: Both machines are easy to use with intuitive command console displays that will quickly be picked up by your employees. The results of the tests may lead you to believe that the Xerox Phaser Compatible Toner is a clear winner, but in truth these machines performed very comparably. The major points to consider are price and warranty. How much does the fact that you can have a technician come on-site sway you, versus having to ship the printer to a service centre and wait for it to return? Also you should consider the cost of toner for both the Xerox Phaser 4510 Toner and the LaserJet P4015dn, as this will be a recurring cost for the life of the machine. Ultimately, both machines will serve the needs of most businesses, so you can buy either with confidence. For more information, please visit http://www.qtoner.us.
