Dirt Devil

Many people use the popular handheld vacuum cleaner called a Dirt Devil. It even comes in a bigger model for around the house and a smaller for an RV or apartment. Many people vacuum their cars with it. The brand name also applies to some larger units.

Dirt Devil

Dirt Devil has its roots in a company founded in 1905. Royal Manufacturing patented a home vacuum system called Cyclone. They sold twenty five million cyclones. When they first were sold they had metal cases.

Royal Manufacturing turned to plastic cased vacuums in 1980. They called it the Royal Dirt Devil. As time went by Royal became less prominent. The short name stuck.

A separate Royal line is still sold. These are better vacuums than the Dirt Devil. However, the company operates under a different name. That name is TTI Floor Care North America. TTI is an abbreviation for Techtronic Industries which is a company in Hong Kong that makes other vacuum cleaners like Hoover. It’s not uncommon for this to be the case in the modern business world. A parent company buys up competing companies. They preserve the brand name. Each line is developed and marketed. That’s because those products already have established sales. It would be foolish to discard those.

The slogan for Dirt Devil from 1995 to 2005 was known to many. Mention Dirt Devil and people would repeat – nothing escapes the power of a Dirt Devil. But then fight dirty became the slogan. It’s a play on words since a vacuum cleaner will fight dirt.

In 1984 consumers met the Dirt Devil hand vac. It was a classic design with a rotating agitator brush to force dirt out of carpets. For hard to reach spots it had a hose. It sold over 25 million units, more than any other hand vac had ever sold in the United States. The company pulled in a lot of cash.

An upgrade was introduced in 1996. They called it the Dirt Devil Ultra Hand Vac. It featured increased suction power, as well as an extendable hose that folded into the unit. It’s still for sale in some shops.

It was back to the classic design for Dirt Devil in 2005 . This one had a filter and collected the dirt in a plastic cup. This one didn’t need a bag. People were tired of vacuum bags.

Dirt Devil is a brand that has been used by generation after generation.
