Cheap Weddings Tips

March 31, 2008

It is incredible just how much money a wedding costs these days; over 25 billion dollars is spent each year on weddings, with an average 20-25,000 spent on each. There is huge pressure on young people to spend vast sums of money on their wedding but it really isn’t necessary; there are many ways to save money just by clever planning, if you want a cheap wedding. Savings can be made in almost every area if you follow just a few of the ideas presented here; which should make for an exciting, memorable day without the financial pain.

Cheap Wedding Dresses

Fortunately there are several options available to help reduce this cost, including the option of a dress that has been worn before. Many brides spend two to three thousand dollars (often more) on a wedding dress and only wear it once; why not make use of a beautiful dress that someone else has only worn once, for a fraction of the cost?

Reception Costs

The best place to make significant cost savings is the reception; when you start to arrange your cheap wedding, pay careful attention to the number of guests you want to invite. Reducing the number of people who attend, including distant relatives or friends you haven’t been in contact with for years, will help enormously; you can even carry out some of the catering yourself and have a hot and cold buffet style meal instead of a four courses.

If you intend holding the wedding reception in an expensive hotel then stop and look at the available options; consider holding it at a club perhaps or even book a restaurant where you can keep an open bar to a minimum by only serving beer, wine and soft drinks. Better still, have an open air reception at a park – just supply some tables and tablecloths.

Wedding Photos

As far as the photographer is concerned, why not just hire one for the service; most guests take cameras and will be happy to take photos at the reception and of course you will have plenty to choose from. Some people save money by dispensing with the professional photographer entirely; using a friend or relation may sound strange at first but you can guarantee one of them is a keen amateur photographer.

Self Produced Contemporary Wedding Invitations

Cutting down on costs can also mean creating your own wedding invitations and seating cards etc; a personal computer combined with a home printer means it is quite easy to produce very professional looking results. Many people are now competent enough to produce near professional quality work; problems and errors can be corrected quickly without regular visits to the printers.

Flowers at the Wedding

If you want to reduce the cost of flowers, then how about this for an option; why not visit the local flower wholesaler where huge savings are possible, then all that’s needed is a little imagination when it comes to the display. Wedding cakes are another costly item but this can easily be made by a friend; these days’ people often experiment with different fillings that do not rely on fruit – which has been used in cakes for generations.

The Wedding Car

Lastly, instead of a limousine why not rent a car or borrow a luxury car from a friend or relative; most will be pleased to help.

It may be a cheap wedding but it can still be enjoyed by everyone that attends; they do not need to know it was arranged on a very tight budget!
