Choosing Wedding Rings
March 31, 2008
Although a great deal of planning is involved when a couple marry, it is the choice of wedding rings that is the most significant; they are the one, long lasting aspect of the marriage and needs to be chosen carefully. Do not rush this as they are more than a symbol of love; rings should also reflect your commitment at the same time as your love. You may want to consider spending the time looking for wedding rings at a specialist jeweler; if possible avoid one of the jewelers chains situated in shopping malls everywhere as it is unlikely anything unique will be found there.
The type of ring available in these stores is usually quite limited; they may also have a restricted price range, another reason to seek out a jeweler who only sells this type of ring. When choosing, you will want a ring for the bride that will complement the engagement ring she is already wearing.
It is often the case that brides-to-be choose a wedding ring that is more elaborate than the engagement ring; which should not be the case although it is sometimes possible to find them in matching sets that complement each other. If this is not possible you will need to try on as many wedding bands as you can to see how they look when positioned next to the engagement ring.
The most commonly sought after metals for rings are: (1) White Gold, (2) Titanium, (3) Silver and (4) Yellow Gold; although, increasing numbers of couples are choosing the longer lasting platinum. The groom is often the one that needs a harder ring and that is certainly the benefit of platinum. Why men? Well they are more likely to damage their ring whilst working; a greater number of men still work in manual industries than women.
A simple but necessary part of the process is to check finger size so the wedding rings fits correctly; the importance of getting them professionally resized is something that cannot be underestimated. It can be embarrassing if the rings are too loose or too tight; no-one wants to lose their ring.
It is not uncommon for couples to leave having the rings adjusted until close to the wedding day; this can cause the jeweler problems because he may have others to adjust for the same day, so allow plenty of time for this. If you go to the right jewelers, there will be a large range of wedding bands to choose from; it will take time and perhaps even more than one visit so allow for this in your wedding planning.
Wedding rings have a significant meaning about the pledge that a couple make to one another; perhaps this is why they are used in so many cultures around the world.
