May 10, 2009

You want to start a new life with your new partner and make the world a better place for you and your children. Get your new green life started right on your wedding day. For couples that are advocates of having a greener and cleaner environment, a green wedding would very much serve their purpose, but how can one make a green wedding? Here are some of ideas where you can specifically work your green magic.

Your Wedding Cake

Truth be told, not too many guests are really after a piece of the wedding cake after consuming a filling meal or taking in their fill of free- flowing drinks served at your reception. The cake offers a great opportunity for photos as the couple cuts it. The left over wedding cake is usually in big amounts – which is enough to be packed up and stored until the christening of the couple’s first born – but will the cake still look appealing by then?

If you have guests who are unable to attend your wedding, it’s nice to save pieces of the cake to have shipped to them.

Even today wedding cakes are just get wasted and thrown out on a large scale. on the contrary, the alternative to the cake is cheese which many would prefer to eat. These are more tempting after meals and can still give the couple a great photo opportunity, though it would much more easier to cut into Brie or Stilton! You might not actually be saving this for christening however cheese is really good since the guests will return to nibble on it all through the evening.

Your Wedding Favors

These trinkets are also called bonbon Erie. A gift for your guests, is quite an old custom, one dating back to ancient Greek times of presenting 5 sugar almonds to each guest, meant to pass on the best wishes from the couple, like long life, bountiful children, and so on.
One great idea for green couples is to give out small native tree for each guest, which they could take with them and plant. Not only will it serve as a reminder of the wedding but also it is also good for the environment.

Native seedlings suitable for giving as favors include alder, ash, birch, chestnut, crab apple, field maple, holly, hornbeam, oak, scotts pine, willow, and yew. These tree seedlings are great wedding favor that can also do the planet a favour, all the while serving as a timeless reminder of your wedding day.

Wedding Confetti

The bride will probably want a photo of herself looking beautiful under the traditional shower of confetti. As you know, this is a fantastic time to take a picture; nevertheless, it not only leaves an unsightly residue that remains a long time afterward, but also many establishments do not look with favor upon confetti showers.

This is traditional, but is also a waste of paper, so a greener alternative is to consider using dried flowers for confetti. There are certain farms that grow flowers for picking out and drying to sell as confetti for special occasions. This is much easier to do and it will not last for days since they basically dissolve quickly by decomposing naturally which is different from the usual paper confetti.

It’s quite enchanting imagining fields full of flowers and sees different shades of blue, pink, white or purple. If you want to shower the bride with confetting on the wedding day, dried flower petals would be an excellent idea. You can evaluate various websites of interest, which offer dried petals for any flower you chose. You can also investigate any other services they offer for additional wedding ideas or activities.

Before you plan on tossing around a lot of confetti, check the location and make sure it is allowed. If your venue still says no to this, you should try telling the management that you are thinking of changing the venue. Surely letting your guests toss a few handfuls of flowers at the bride and the bride and groom is a request that should not be declined!
